Using SAMHSA’s guidelines for trauma-informed care (TIC), this 90-minute training will describe how to apply TIC when working with LGBTQ+ populations. Research describing the prevalence and impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) will be summarized. Participants will learn about the effects of childhood trauma on psychosocial development and family functioning. Participants will be introduced to SAMHSA’s guiding principles of TIC. Mental health practitioners and social service professionals will learn to view client presenting problems through the lens of trauma, as well as practical skills to implement trauma-informed service delivery across a variety of roles when working with LGBTQ+ clients.
