From the ACLU
Thursday, May 20 – 8pm EST
During slavery, Black people were forced to labor for the enrichment of America. After slavery, the emancipated suffered violent repression and exploitation under Jim Crow laws and black codes in the South and de facto segregation across the nation.
At this action session, you’ll hear from Jeff Robinson, executive director of the Who We Are Project and the ACLU’s former deputy legal director, and ACLU campaign strategist Jennifer Bellamy about H.R. 40 and the case for reparations. H.R. 40 would establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery, its legacy, and make recommendations to Congress for reparations.
