Codeswitching: Navigating the Dynamics of Workplace Norms

December 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM ET

What is codeswitching and how does it affect the everyday realities of employees at work and on campus? In this interactive discussion, we will consider the experiences of Black employees and members of other marginalized, devalued, and underrepresented groups to define codeswitching. We’ll identify the cultural norms and specific situations that create pressure for individuals to codeswitch and unpack how codeswitching reflects and reinforces whiteness as the normal and dominant culture in the workplace.

Through naming and dissecting the causes and consequences of codeswitching, we will develop a path for organizations to create inclusive environments where everyone can be themselves.
