We are thrilled to announce the national launch of ADDICTION, our new animated video series that turns the science of addiction into stories that stick.
The series is made up of compact episodes that aim to expand public understanding about substance use disorders (SUDs) and replace the myths and misinformation that have kept this disease from being treated like a medical condition.
Episode I, “The Hijacker,” explains how addiction changes the brain to make it think that the substance is more important than our basic needs for survival, such as eating, finding shelter, and caring for our young.
Each episode is the result of intensive collaboration among scientists, patients and families impacted by addiction, the Addiction Policy Forum, and award-winning animator Patrick Smith. A special thanks to the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) for the science highlighted in these episodes!
