According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse for Teens, prescription drugs are the fourth most misused drug among teens, behind tobacco, alcohol and marijuana. One problem is teens’ access to Rx drugs. They don’t necessarily need to go to a “dealer” to get them. They may be able to find them at home, in their family’s medicine cabinet. In fact, a recent report shows 2/3 of teens who abuse Rx medication get it from family, friends or acquaintances—either by buying them, being given them or stealing them.

You can protect your child by properly removing unused drugs from your home.
There are locations that take your medication for safe disposal.
