OUR BEGINNINGS

Over ten years ago, Miami County residents Mike Hines and Jeff Morehead recognized the need for a support group for those with disabilities in the area.  Having limitations themselves for many years and being constantly confronted with non-access into many places in Peru, they formed a 501(c)3 organization in 2007, focused on educating our community and offering help to others in similar situations. The Harvesting Capabilities name c from their motto:
Share your dreams and talents with us and then let us help you

Harvest them into Capabilities.”

Our organization his governed by a volunteer board of 8 members which meet the fourth Thursday of each month.

OUR PRESENT DAY

Harvesting Capabilities has become a familiar name to those in the Miami County area who need assistance with ramps, adaptive equipment, and help with the challenges associated with disabilities.  HC is also now serving our aging Senior population with these same services.

Our Thrift Store, Discount Medical Equipment, and offices are located at 231 North Grant Street in Peru.

Proceeds from sales at the thrift store will increase our services to the community and help fund our current project, an all-inclusive playground for children of ALL abilities.

We gratefully accept donations of gently used clothing, working household items, furniture, and medical equipment during regular business hours.  Our store hours are Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.OUR FUTURE GOALS- HC PARK In addition to serving the Seniors and those with disabilities in our community, we have recognized the need for an all-inclusive playground.  Working with the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Peru and the Parks Board, we have determined the best location for this playground is adjacent to Miami’s Fort, on the River Walkway.

We selected the AAA State of Play as our designer and builder and are asking the community for donations through our “Buy a Brick” program.  We currently have over $20,000 in our playground fund and are applying for grants to get to our goal of $108,000.  Proceeds from the 2018 Chili Cook-off will again be going toward this fund. You can help by clicking on the donate button and making a contribution to our all-inclusive playground for children of ALL physical abilities!
